Visit to the Vilvoorde Viaduct construction site: an immersion into the heart of a major infrastructure project

This Thursday, the Brussels Port Community had the opportunity to visit the Vilvoorde Viaduct construction site, as a continuation of the discussions initiated during the “Works on the Ring” Baralo event held in December 2025.

The visit gave participants the chance to discover one of the most significant infrastructure projects currently taking place around Brussels. As a strategic part of the Ring, the Vilvoorde Viaduct plays a key role not only in passenger mobility, but also in the logistical and economic flows of the entire region.
Beyond the figures and mobility challenges, this on-site immersion above all highlighted the technical and human scale of the ongoing works. Participants were able to observe the temporary installations, support structures, technical access points and various construction phases, all within an environment impressive for both its size and complexity.

The visit also provided an opportunity to exchange views on the challenges linked to renovating and modernising ageing infrastructure, while ensuring traffic continuity on one of Brussels’ busiest transport axes. The Brussels Port Community warmly thanks the Viaduct Vilvoorde team for their welcome, the quality of their explanations and the organisation of this enriching visit.e.
